in sociology, the alteration of mechanisms within the social structure, characterized by changes in cultural symbols, rules of behaviour, social organizations, or value systems.
The early Progressive movement of the 1890s believed that America was losing its core values as the country entered the industrial age, or as some might call it the age of the "robber barons". Today we are again entering a new age. One in which our current leaders are attempting to radically alter the relationship between the American people and their government. The expansion and enrichment of entitlements will not only have an impact on the productive engines in our economy, but more importantly American attitudes will change as well. For example, some of us believe the age old American value known as the "work ethic" has been affected.
So the question before the house is what further impact will the new changes have on our beleaguered society?
